Check out this animated GIF of a .308 Winchester round model that gives you an inside look at the components of this popular shooting, sporting and hunting round. We made this in the shop with a hacksaw, a couple files, belt sander, super glue, and packing tape.
The .308 Winchester Round was designed in 1952 as a derivative from the 7.62x51 NATO round. Although the two are not completely identical, they are considered safe and interchangeable by Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers Institute (SAMMI).
