.223 vs 5.56

     Recently we were asked whether or not a .223 REM round could be used in a 5.56 chambered rifle. The short answer, yes. But why?      The 5.56 NATO was a round developed in the late 1950’s for the AR-15 and adopted by the military in the early 1960’s. This round was designed to stay supersonic at 500 yards. Arming the National Guard

                In the wake of the Chattanooga shooting of four Marines, at least a half-dozen states have made a move toward arming National Guardsmen. The governors in Florida, Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Indiana all ordered the Guardsmen to be armed.                 Governor Rick Scott, of Florida, said in an interview with CNN that recruiting centers could be targets and he wants the National Guard to be safe.                 “We’ve got to understand that you know we have people in our country that want to harm the military,” Scott said. “They need to be safe and they need to be...

U.S. Army to Replace Beretta M9

Yesterday, the U.S. Army held the fourth Industry Day at the Picatinny Arsenal in New Jersey to select the replacement for the longstanding handgun, the Beretta M9. The new replacement, the XM17 MHS, will need to be more accurate, fit the majority of hand sizes, and potentially have a larger caliber than the M9's 9mm. The M9 has been in military service for 30 years, but is outdated and the military wants something a little more versatile.
