     Recently we were asked whether or not a .223 REM round could be used in a 5.56 chambered rifle. The short answer, yes. But why?      The 5.56 NATO was a round developed in the late 1950’s for the AR-15 and adopted by the military in the early 1960’s. This round was designed to stay supersonic at 500 yards.
